The Sustainability in Residence team collaborates with residence sustainability councils and works closely with UBC Sustainability in Residence initiatives to bring sustainability programming to residence. This team has engaged those living on campus in everything from the energy reduction challenge, ‘Aim to Sustain’ (formerly known as ‘Do It in the Dark’), to monthly boothing in first-year residence and beyond.

INITIATIVES:

STUDENT ENGAGEMENT

The Residence team works on engaging those living in residence to live more sustainably. This is done by boothing sessions in residences (mainly first-year residences) to educate students about different aspects of sustainable living, from waste to water to energy.

ENERGY COMPETITIONS

The Aim to Sustain energy competition was first created in 2011 to take place in UBC student residences. These competitions encouraged students to reduce their energy consumption and achieve the greatest percent reduction below their baseline measurements.

This initiative has now been taken on by Residence Life and sustainability councils.
