Job Title: “Shut the Sash” Energy Conservation Campaign Assistant

Job Description:
Reporting to the Coordinator, Reporting and Research, the student will assist in the development and delivery of a “Shut the Sash” energy conservation campaign targeting fume hoods users in three laboratory buildings. (The campaign focuses on fume hoods since they use a lot of energy – a single
fume hood uses as much energy as 3. 5 homes!) The main duties are:
• Assisting Campus Sustainability staff in developing, promoting and running an energy conservation competition
• Meeting with laboratory user groups to explain the competition and to engage participants
• Checking fume hood sash height on a weekly basis (will require safety training) and recording and analyzing results
• Updating website and posters to communicate weekly and final results
of the competition
• Assisting in organizing wrap‐up celebration events • Evaluating the competition’s
success in reducing sash heights compared to baseline behaviours and making recommendations
• If student has the appropriate educational background, assisting with calculations of energy savings.
•Assisting in writing wrap‐up report.
• Potentially, assisting with developing other energy conservation campaigns in laboratories.
