Hey there! We’re the 2011/12 Steering Committee for Common Energy! What is a Steering Committee, you may ask? It’s made up of all of the sub-group coordinators as well as the Director and Assistant Director. We facilitate connections between the sub-groups, organize full-team events and meetings, and plan monthly socials/training evenings.
Quinn Runkle – Director

Hi! My name’s Quinn and I’m in my third year at UBC studying Geography with a concentration in Environment and Sustainability and minoring in Political Science. I love spending time outside either in the forest or at the beach; I’m a board game fanatic (especially Scrabble); and I am interested in Canadian and international politics as well as, of course, environmental issues. I’m originally from Halfmoon Bay on the Sunshine Coast and have been passionate about environmental initiatives ever since starting Halfmoon Bay elementary’s Ecokids Club at age 8. When I was 14, I went to Antarctica with Students on Ice and was inspired to do more to take on climate change after having seen its effects firsthand. Common Energy has been a passion of mine since becoming a student at UBC and so I am excited and honoured to be the director this year. Common Energy is made up of incredibly dedicated individuals and I love working with them to bring UBC beyond climate neutral.
Kyuwon Kim – Assistant Director

Kyuwon got recruited to CE at last years Farmade. She is in her 4th year at UBC studying Natural Resources Conservation- Global Perspectives, in the Faculty of Forestry. Kyuwon was part of the “Challenges” team last year and really had a great time Doing it in the Dark 😉 This year, as Assistant Director she is facilitating the monthly big team CE meetings as well as coordinating the NOW! (No Other World) Conference. When not at CE events, Kyuwon can be found in the Forestry computer labs crying over GIS assignments or swimming at the Aquatic Centre.
Krsitin Sunde – Dialogue Co-Coodinator

Kristin is in her forth year in the Faculty of Arts. She is majoring in Political Science with a minor in Environment and Society. Kristin joined the CE team last year during the NOW! Conference. She is stoked to be coordinating the Dialogue team. She can be often found in the Gallery during the monthly Green Drinks or making you a perfect latte in The Boulevard.
Khushi Chachcha – Dialogue Co-Coordinator

Khushi is her 3rd year in the Faculty of Science. She is majoring in Software Engineering with a minor in Biochemistry. She has been part of the CE team since September of 2009. As a well-seasoned veteran, she is excited to be coordinating the Dialogue team!
Pani Pajouhesh – Education Coordinator

Pani is in her 3rd year at UBC studying Geography: Environment and Sustainability. Pani was part of the “Education” team last year and she is so excited to be coordinating the team this year. Aside from CE, Pani works for the UBC Sustainability Initiative, so she can be seen working hard at her office in the new CIRS building.
Rosalind Sadowski – Tangible Solutions Coordinator

Rosalind is in her 4th year in the Global Resources System program in LFS. She has been a member of CE since October 2008. Rosalind was the “Tangies” coordinator last year in first term then she took the second term to study abroad in Copenhagen. Rosalind is back as coordinator this year and her Tangies team have been hard at work (running a paper-towel-composting pilot project in the SUB and doing compost-mob campaigns).
Amy Jiang – Challenges Co-Coordinator

Amy is in her 2nd year at UBC in the Faculty of Science. Amy joined CE last year as a resident of Totem Park. She saw how amazing Do it in the Dark was and wanted to join the Challenges team for term two! Aside from Common Energy, she can be found volunteering at the Beaty Biodiversity Museum or casually runing half-marathons.
Corina Santema – Challenges Co-Coordinator

Corina is in her 2nd year at UBC in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems. She is majoring in Food, Nutrition and Health. Corina was a member of “Challenges” last year and she did a fantastic job coordinating “Do it in the Dark” and “WWF Earth Hour”. Corina can be spotted on campus at Agoras, like a true LFS student.
Aaron Rusak – Food Coordinator

Aaron is in his 3rd year at UBC in the Faculty of Sciences. He is super interested in food security issues and the local food movement. Aaron was part of “Tangible Solutions” group last year and they campaigned for more green roofs on campus. This year, Aaron developed a fifth subgroup (FOOD) and is working hard on bridging the gap between UBC and sustainable food.
