1. Big Team Meeting on Sunday Jan. 26
Our January Big Team Meeting is coming up very soon this Sunday, January the 26th from 5:30-7:30 pm in the Global Lounge, Marine Drive Building 1. At this Big Team meeting, we will be hearing about what our Common Energy teams have been up to so far this year, and what they are planning to do over the next few months. This is a great chance to give your suggestions to any teams you are not a part of! We will be having a vegetarian potluck as well, so if you are not already on a Common Energy team, please bring a dessert, appetizer, or beverage to share. 2. Common Energy at the Gage Residence Sustainability Fair
Gage Residence is hosting a Sustainability Fair this Saturday, January the 25th from 12-4pm. Our Residence Team and Campaign Team will both be hosting a booth, so make sure to stop by the Gage Commonsblock to learn more about living sustainably in residence and bottled-water alternatives.
3. Ugly Sweater Day with Common Energy
National Sweater Day is a great reminder for all of us to turn down our heat and wear a sweater instead to save energy. This year we will be holding their annual Ugly Sweater Day event, encouraging students and faculty to show off their ugliest sweater. A booth will be set up in the SUB on Feb 4, 5 and 6 from 11am-2pm where we will have a backdrop and ugly sweaters (if you’re not wearing yours already) to take fun pictures with! Finally, from 7pm onwards we will be at Dentry’s Irish Pub (on West 10th and Sasamat) for some amazing performances, laughs and beers in our UGLY sweaters. We hope to see you there!
4. Want to Join Common Energy?
We are looking for new members to join our Food & Connections Team! This term, the Food & Connections Team is organizing the third annual “Chew on This” food symposium, covering topics such as urban farming, animal welfare in the food industry, and insect farming. This will be a great chance for you to learn more about sustainable food, and get event-planning experience. The Food & Connections team meets every Tuesday from 6:30-7:30pm. 5. Hiring for the 2014-15 Common Energy Steering Committee!
Hiring for next year’s Steering Committee will be starting soon! Applications will be released online at commonenergyubc.com on February 3, and they will be due on February 24th. We will be hiring for Team Coordinators as well as Assistant Directors. We encourage all interested applicants to apply. Stay tuned for more details!
