1. Big Team Meeting: Holiday Edition on Nov. 24
Our last Big Team Meeting of the term will be happening on Sunday November 24th from 5:30 to 7:30pm in the Global Lounge, Marine Drive Building 1. Right now, UBC is drafting up a 20 Year Sustainability Plan, and Marko Pajalic, from the University Sustainability Initiative, will be coming in to do a student consultation with Common Energy. This is a fantastic and unique opportunity to give your input on sustainability at UBC in a long-term, campus wide scale. This will also help determine how the rest of the campus-wide student consultation process will be carried out, so we would love to have you come! If that isn’t enough to convince you, this will also be our Holiday Edition – come in your warmest and ugliest Christmas sweaters, and bring a potluck item to share! Make sure to check out the Facebook event as well!
2. UBC’s Got Skillz
UBC’s Got Skillz is back, just in time for the end of the semester! Common Energy UBC has set up another round of exciting, hands-on workshops to help you release some stress and take your mind off exams and papers. At the same time, you’ll be learning some crafty DIY skills in a sustainable way! We have 6 workshops lined up for the last two weeks of the term:
- Jewelry Making Workshop: November 19th
- Natural Dye Workshop: November 20th
- Mug Design and Tea Blending Workshop: November 21st
- Magazine Coasters/Bowls Workshop: November 26th
- Plastic Bottle Upcycling Workshop: November 27th
- Pop Can Stove Making Workshop: November 28th

3. Sustainable Food on Campus Tour
On Wednesday, November 27th from 1:00 to 2:0pm, join the Food + Connections team as we take a tour of the sustainable cafés and restaurants on campus! Learn about how students and/or companies have adopted environmental, social and economically sustainable practices while keeping prices low for students. Some food samples will be provided and the group will be ~25 students. Check out the event page to find out more!
4. Take a Hike with Common Energy
The Events & Outreach team has organized a series of local hikes for you to take, and the last one is happening this Sunday, Nov. 24. The group will be leaving from the UBC bus loop at 9am, and heading to Norvan Falls for a hike. Check out the Facebook event page for more information, and RSVP to Hayley Bessette athayley.bessette@hotmail.com to attend by Friday November 22nd! If you have a car that you could drive and room for a few others, please let Hayley know as well, as we will be carpooling to Norvan Falls.
5. Sustainable Living Tips from Tangible Solutions
The Tangible Solutions Team is creating a video series highlighting some tips to help you live more sustainably at home. Check out the first video on YouTube, and make sure to like it and share it with your friends!
6. Tap That UBC
Our Campaigns team is working hard on Tap That this term, a campaign to promote bottled-water alternatives at UBC. Make sure that you like their Facebook page to get updates about what they are up to.
